Multi-Layered Security Plan Essay Example for Free

Multi-Layered Security Plan Essay Protecting sensitive or confidential data is paramount in many businesses. In the event such information is made public, businesses may face legal or financial ramifications. At the very least, they will suffer a loss of customer trust. In most cases, however, they can recover from these financial and other losses with appropriate investment or compensation Having information of different security levels on the same computer systems poses a real threat. It is not a straight-forward matter to isolate different information security levels, even though different users log in using different accounts, with different permissions and different access controls (Red Hat, Inc. 2006). Below I have listed the IT infrastructure of Richman Investments along with recommendations in each infrastructure on levels of security that should be implemented for a more secure network. IT Infrastructure Affected 1. User Domain: The people who access an organization’s information system. * The first thing that should be implemented is a mandatory Computer Security training session to educate the users on the proper use of work computers. 2. Workstation Domain: Users (most) connecting to the IT infrastructure. * The workstation domain comes with its own problems such as unauthorized access to the system, the way to fix this problem would be to implement access policies and guidelines. 3. LAN Domain: A collection of computers connected to one another or to a common connection medium. * Implement second or third level identity check to gain access to sensitive systems, applications, and date. Keep all hardware in a secure location with access only with proper ID. 4. LAN-to-WAN Domain: Link between the Wide Area Network (WAN) and the Internet. * Conduct post configuration penetration tests of the layered security solution within the LAN-to-WAN Domain. Test inbound and outbound traffic and fix any gaps. Also, apply e-mail server and attachments antivirus and e-mail quarantining for unknown file types. Stop domain-name Web site access based on content-filtering policies. 5. WAN Domain: Wide Area Network (WAN) connects remote locations to the Local Area Network (LAN). * Encrypt confidential data transmissions through service provider WAN using VPN tunnels. 6. Remote Access Domain: Connects remote users to the organization’s IT infrastructure. * Remote Access Domain, Being that the users are off site it is hard to say that the users password information has not been compromised. In such cases when abnormalities are spotted or data is accessed without proper authorization, data should be completely encrypted to prevent any sensitive materials from being sold or presented to the open market. 7. System/Application Domain- Holds all the mission-critical systems, applications, and data. * Develop a business continuity plan for mission-critical applications providing tactical steps for maintaining availability of operations. Perform regular rigorous software and Web-application testing and penetration testing prior to launch.

Illegal Immigration to the U.S. Essay -- Cons of Illegal Immigration, I

Illegal Immigration in the States Works Cited Not Included Cynthia Tucker, an editor for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, published an article on the issue of the illegal immigration to the United States in October 2005, in which she argues that illegal immigration is one of the serious issues like crime, poverty, and terrorism which demands wise leaders who can solve this issue. She criticizes Tom Tancredo; a Republican congressional representative from Colorado, for promoting a legislation which she claims minimizes the rights of illegal immigrants. In her argument, she does not take into consideration the side effects on U.S society of illegal immigration and she ignores the cost of illegal immigration. For example, there is a study conducted by the Center Of Immigration Studies, an independent, non-partisan, non-profit research organization founded in 1985, which estimates that "households headed by illegal aliens used $10 billion more in government services than they paid in taxes in 2002."(Center of Immigration...). Cynthia Tuck er cannot defend her argument clearly and loses credibility because she attacks Tancredo himself and not just his argument, and she ignores issues related to immigration like terrorism. Tucker believes that the main reason for illegal immigration to the United States is the businesses who hire the undocumented workers, as cheap labor. She criticizes Tancredo for promoting this legislation and in the same time neglecting the businesses who hire them. She claims that Tancredo's legislation will deprive the immigrants from their writes, and this will affect the United States because these immigrants produce benefits. She illustrates the benefits of immigration to the States with two crucial... ...ple living in the United States and nearly one million arriving each year; as a result, the potential for terrorists entering the United States undetected is high. Center for Immigration Studies Director of Research, Steven Camarota explains that: "Because every part of our immigration system has been exploited by terrorists, we cannot reform just one area, but must address the problems that exist throughout (Center of Immigration...). Tucker ignores this serious issue which Tucker does not illustrate the whole facts and the issues that related to the issue of illegal immigrants to the States. She also does not criticize Tancredo's argument logically; instead she attack Tancredo himself. Finally, she does mention the other issues like terrorism, language and crime. At the end, Cynthia Tucker loses her credibility because she can not defend her argument clearly.

Cango Analysis

OVERVIEW: My initial observation is that CanGo is a company that has had some success so far. Liz and her company have many great ideas for the future of the company. However, they still need to create a mission statement to show what the company is trying to accomplish as well as what they are about. Liz was given an award, and just glossed over the story, because she had no idea how CanGo came to where they are. There was lack of planning, and didn’t even have a vision for her company. CanGo has identified a growing trend within the gaming industry that they want to use to bring them success, which is online gaming. They only problem is that they have taken on an area that is not within their normal range of business. Without looking at the challenges or risks, CanGo has jumped on board. SWOT: When looking into the SWOT analysis of the company. It is sad to say but the strength that I could come up with is luck. Due to the lack of planning, and many other areas, I am surprised CanGo has made the success that it has. Yes, CanGo does have some employees that know what they are doing, and did help contribute to that success. But overall I would say they had luck on their side. Unfortunately I have seen a wide array of weaknesses for the company. One of the biggest is communication. There isn’t any. When they had a meeting to discuss online gaming, there were never any decisions being discussed. It was, this is going to happen, hope you can deal type of situation, which leads to the strategic management of the company, or in this case lack thereof. The management of the company has no decision making processes, they just jump in head first without looking for the consequences or risks. Yes, there are benefits, but you need to check into things before making rash decisions. The company contains many levels of organization and a variety of people on their staff. Debbie seems to be the most knowledgeable and organized of the group. She is willing to help others, as well as do her own work. Nick on the other hand feels he is on top of everything and well organized. When in actuality is very far from it. Then there is Warren aka â€Å"Coach†. He has a direct approach when talking to his team members. However, gives very little guidelines. Another area that needs addressed is the work ethic of the employees, as well as giving assignments and tasks to qualified individuals. The entire project was basically put on Nick’s shoulders. He is not organized, and is not even prepared for this kind of work. RECOMMENDATIONS: The first recommendation we have for the CanGo Company is to develop a mission A professional development program would aid the CanGo staff in learning the strategic management process. This program would also aid in dealing with the dysfunction between the Operations Manager and the staff. Through study of the strategic management process, the Operations Manager would learn that moderately difficult goals are more likely to be met than impossible ones. His assignment for handling the entire online gaming project to one unorganized staff member, shows he needs this training. For example, Liz stated that their goal was to provide customers a one-stop shopping experience. Therefore, in a way stated one area of the mission for the company. Going into the entertainment service of online gaming is a step in the wrong direction, and would go against the mission statement. When giving out projects, make sure to assign it to the correct employee(s). Giving a project to the wrong employee can make or break the project, especially if they have poor organizational skills. The management also needs to follow through and give tasks to the correct person, but also give more direction. The Operations Manager needs to be more hands on. CanGo also announced an expected 500% increase in orders during the holiday season. Instead of making the online project the most important aspect or project, they need to work on the increase and making sure every area is covered. The company’s success is not based on the online gaming. They made their success through their one-stop shopping site, and they need to deal with the number of challenges that they are being faced with dealing with that. It is has a higher priority as well as is more in line with their business goals for the company. I would recommend making Debbie the Operations Manager for this project. She is well organized, is able to help teach how to best prioritize, as well as brings everyone together. I think she would accomplish more, because she is able to identify the problem without much difficulty and creates specific goals for each person for their daily activities. Plus she shows things in diagrams, such as a Gantt chart, to let everyone know within the group what needs to be done and what is a priority. The final recommendation I would make is to have CanGo go through some communication changes. They need to make a clear communications path between everyone. If someone is overwhelmed or confused, they need to be able to ask questions. If they are going to take on a new project, make sure it is discussed. So you can find out all aspects, such as challenges, risks, etc. References Prentice-Hall, Inc. , 2002. Class Videos. CanGo Quicktime Videos Week 1. Retrieved on 05/07/09. Prentice-Hall, Inc. , 2002. Sports Drinks And Energy Drinks - 711 Words

Kristie Cox Chemistry Lab Introduction: In advertisement sports drinks and energy drinks claim they can do it all like weight loss, improve endurance, and develop better concentration. The question posed is do either sports drinks or energy drinks really do what they claim to do, and if so which one works best? First off, sports drinks and energy drinks may overlap however, they are not the same thing. Sports drinks such as Gatorade and PowerAde have been popular with athletes for decades. Historically sports drinks were specifically created to be consumed during exercise to enhance performance. However, in 2011 the number of emergency department visits related to consumption of energy drinks exceeded 20,000 (4). Nearly half of these visits involved adverse effects oc curring from product misuse (4). According to a study on Gatorade at the University of Minnesota they stated If you’re not breaking a sweat, then let go of that Gatorade. Drinking sports drinks as a regular beverage at least once a week is associated with other not-so-healthy behaviors, like higher intake of added sugar from sodas and fruit juice, and smoking (5). One 32 oz bottle of basic Gatorade contains 53 grams of sugar (nearly 11 teaspoons). According the American Heart Association we should only eat 9 added teaspoons a day (5).The American Academy of Pediatrics warns excessive amounts of caffeine can affect the appropriate balance of carbohydrate, fat and protein intakes that children need for optimal growth, development, body composition and health (6).Too much caffeine also can increase heart rate, blood pressure, speech rate and motor activity, and play a role in triggering irregular heartbeat or abnormal heart rhythm, among other concern (6).
